If you're planning a construction project or a home renovation, you may be considering renting a roll off dumpster to make waste disposal easier. Roll off dumpsters come in various sizes and can be used for a range of projects, from small renovations to large-scale construction.
In this blog post, we'll explain how roll off dumpster rentals work and provide some tips to help you get the most out of your rental.
Tips for Selecting the Right Size Container
Before renting a roll off dumpster, it’s important to understand what size container will best suit your project’s needs.
Wise Guys Dumpsters offers 2 sizes of roll off dumpsters for your projects - 15 yard and 20 yard.
If you have never rented a roll off dumpster before that might not be helpful in determining which size is best for your project. Here are some general guidelines for which to choose.
15 Yard Dumpster
- Small - medium projects / remodels
- Attic, basement, garage clean out
- Flooring & carpet removal
- Bath tear out
- Small kitchen removal
20 Yard Dumpster
- Medium - Large projects / remodels
- House & building clean out
- Demolition projects
- New construction
- Large kitchen & bath removal
Dumpster Dimensions
Along with considering the scope of your project, you also need to consider the size of your lot. Our 15 yard dumpster is 14 X 7 X 4 and our 20 yard dumpster is 14 X 7 X 6. You want to make sure one of those will fit on your lot.
Driveway Safe
Keep in mind that all our dumpsters are driveway safe. Setting a dumpster in your driveway is a good option if you don’t have any room in your yard or are worried about your grass. Many clients will have us place the dumpster in their driveway.

How to Properly Load and Unload a Roll Off Dumpster Rental
When loading and unloading a dumpster rental, make sure that all items can fit through the appropriate sized opening and any hazardous materials are placed in specially designated containers.
Also, it’s important to ensure that nothing sticks out from the top or sides of the dumpster as this can cause damage during transit.
Is there anything I can’t load in the dumpster?
Unfortunately, there are a few things that the Denton County landfill won’t allow and a few other things that are allowed but require special care.
Not allowed:
- No paint
- No Tires
- No batteries
Allowed with exceptions:
- Appliances are allowed, but there is a $10 per appliance charge.
Please let us know if you place appliances in the dumpster, and how many, we are required to take those to a different area of the dump when disposing of them.
Is concrete, rock, and dirt allowed in a roll off dumpster?
Some concrete, rock, and dirt will be ok, but keep in mind that concrete, rock, and dirt are extremely heavy. If you are demolishing a brick house, for instance, you would be better off with a dump trunk rather than a dumpster. Loads can become so heavy that they are unable to be picked up, especially if the dumpster is filled with concrete, rock, or dirt alone.
What do I do when I am finished loading the dumpster?
Once the dumpster is loaded up with all of its contents, simply give Wise Guys Dumpsters a call to arrange pickup of your container or schedule an additional drop-off day depending on how long you need the dumpster.
We allow extensions upon request. Additional fees occur when you have the dumpster longer than the initial rental period, but extra days are affordable. We charge 10 dollars a day anytime you exceed your initial rental agreement.
Conclusion
The benefits of renting a roll off dumpster for managing waste during construction and home renovation projects are clear. Selecting the right size container, understanding proper loading and unloading procedures, and knowing what materials can or cannot be put in the dumpster are essential to ensure that your waste is disposed of efficiently and safely.
With these important points in mind, you can confidently take on any project and have peace of mind that your waste will be managed appropriately.
